Rear Facing Car Seats Are The First Car Seat
 2/17/2010  by Kerri

Rear facing car seats are the first type of car seats you need to purchase for your little one. You should purchase the car seat before your baby is born. The reasons for this is so that you have plenty of time to choose one that you like that also fits perfectly in your vehicle. Another reason is, of course, that your baby must ride home from the hospital in a suitable rear facing car seat. At a lot of hospitals, the nurses will not be happy for you to leave until they have seen your baby in a correctly fitted rear facing car seat.

Choosing rear facing car seats is not really all that difficult. Manufacturers car seats all have to pass the current safety standards to be able to put them on the market. So no matter how expensive or how cheap a car seat is, it is still safe for your baby. The more expensive car seats usually just have added features to them. For example, extra padding, or softer fabric. There are many different brands to choose from, and you may feel a lot more comfortable purchasing a car seat from a well known and popular brand.

Before you go looking for a rear facing car seat you should know which features you would like the car seat to have, and also if you are planning on buying a car seat base or not to go with it. Knowing this will make shopping for a car seat a bit easier for you. A car seat base basically just adds that little bit of extra convenience, as the base only needs to be fitted once. Although, you will need to check before every journey that the car seat base is still tightly fitted. The car seat usually just clips in and out of the base which makes it easy to remove and install into the car.

A good idea would be to take someone who is already a mum with you. They will have experience in buying baby things. Whether it's a friend or even your mum, it should make shopping for rear facing car seats much easier for you.
