| Car Seats for Kids - Do's |

The following are some examples of things you should do to make sure your kid car seats are safer and more comfortable for your child. DO make sure you put your child in a rear facing car seat at a 45 degree angle. If you were to place your baby in a seat that was in an upright position then your baby's head could fall forward and squeeze his airways. Also if you were to place him in a position that is too flat he could slip down the seat.
DO make sure you follow all of the instructions and make sure to read it thoroughly to make sure you have fitted the seat properly.
DO check your cars owner manual if you are unsure about any fittings. For example if you are unsure where your airbags are situated in your car or if your car has a harness retainer clip etc.
DO place a rolled up towel down the side of your baby's body if he is too small. This will ensure he stays secure in his seat.
DO make sure to place the harness straps in through the slots below your baby's shoulders when the car seat is rear facing.
DO make sure that the harness straps in a forward facing car seat are above your child's shoulders as this will give the most protection in a car crash.
DO make sure that if your car has a harness retainer clip that it sits at the same level as just below your child's shoulders. If the straps are in the wrong place then the straps could fall off your baby.
DO use a high-back booster seat rather than a backless one as the highback booster seats have been known to be safer in side impact crashes.
DO take your car to a car seats inspection site to make sure your baby's seat has been installed properly if you feel concerned about whether you have fitted it correctly.
DO use top rated BOOSTER seats for your child when she/he is too tall or heavy for their baby car seat.
DO make sure your child uses a booster seat if they are in the age range of around 3 year old right up until they turn 12 (check the booster seat regulations/laws).
Those are all great examples of safety so go on, get checking your kid car seats if you think there are any examples we have gave you that make you think you need to review your child's seat.
